Apple’s 2027 iPhone to Feature Hidden Under-Display Selfie Camera for 20th Anniversary

Apple is reportedly planning a groundbreaking upgrade for its 20th-anniversary iPhone, expected to launch in 2027. According to reports from a Chinese source, the company aims to completely hide the selfie camera under the display, offering a seamless full-screen experience.
This move aligns with earlier leaks suggesting that Apple’s 2027 flagship iPhone will feature a notch-free, punch-hole-free design. The information shared by the popular Weibo account Digital Chat Station indicates that the development of Apple’s under-display camera technology is progressing on schedule.
Apple is set to launch a 20th-anniversary iPhone in 2027 featuring a completely under-display selfie camera. The new technology aims for a bezel-less design and improved photo quality.
Sources claim the under-display selfie camera will debut a year after the introduction of under-display Face ID, expected with the iPhone 18 Pro models. Apple is also rumored to be working on a major redesign featuring a bezel-less, curved-edge display for the 2027 release.
In addition, industry insiders suggest Apple might skip the “iPhone 19” name, similar to how it skipped the “iPhone 9” in 2017 when launching the iPhone X for its 10th anniversary.
While several Android phones already use under-display camera systems, image quality has often been an issue due to light distortion. Apple, however, is reportedly addressing this challenge. Its Korean partner LG Innotek is developing advanced under-display camera modules that eliminate visible holes when inactive. The system uses a free-form optical multiple-lens array to minimize distortion and enhance brightness.
Recent reports from JPMorgan also suggest Apple’s first foldable device could include the industry’s first 24-megapixel under-display camera—far superior to the 4MP or 8MP sensors currently found in Android devices. This points to major advancements in Apple’s display and imaging technology.
If the rumors prove true, Apple’s 2027 iPhone could mark one of the most significant design and technology milestones in the company’s history.
