Apple Working on Satellite Connectivity to Enable Messaging Without Cellular Network

Apple is reportedly developing a new satellite-based communication feature that will allow iPhone users to stay connected even when there is no mobile network signal.

According to sources, the feature will enable users to send messages and access Apple Maps through satellite connectivity — a major step forward in smartphone communication technology.

Apple had already launched its Emergency SOS via Satellite service in 2022 with the iPhone 14 series, allowing users to reach emergency services from remote locations without a cellular signal. Later, the company expanded the service with Roadside Assistance, which helps users request help when stranded on the road.

Now, Apple plans to take this technology further by adding satellite support for regular messaging and navigation apps. The company is working in partnership with Global star, a satellite operator that also powers Apple’s current Emergency SOS feature.

In the next generation of iPhones, users may not even need to point their phones toward the satellite manually — the device will automatically connect even when kept inside a bag, car, or jacket pocket.

Reports also suggest that upcoming iPhone models will support 5G NTN (Non-Terrestrial Network) technology, combining satellite and cellular networks to deliver broader and more stable coverage.

With this upgrade, iPhone users could send messages, make calls, and navigate through Apple Maps even in mountains, forests, or at sea, marking a new era in mobile communication.
